Monroe Starrett, 68, of Lagrange, Indiana, formerly of Lejunior, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013. Born April 14, 1945 in Gatliff, Kentucky, he had lived in Harlan County most of his life. He was a former diesel mechanic for Lawson Construction and believed in the Pentecostal faith.
Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Starrett and Dessie Horner Starrett; a son, Mike Starrett; a sister, Myrlene Bennett; two brothers, Ronald and Lonnie Starrett; and his special friend, Beulah Lawan Bush.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie Starrett and wife, Judy, East Bernstadt, KY; Ricky Starrett and wife, Tammy, Lagrange, IN; James Starrett and wife, Becky, Lagrange, IN; two sisters, Arzella Gee; Brenda Hunter and husband, Larry, all of Norwood, OH; and one brother, Hershel Starrett and wife, Melissa, Lejunior, KY; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Starrett, Frankfort, KY; and his former wife and mother of his children who remained his friend and care giver, Linda Baker, Lagrange, IN. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and four special friends he met while living in Lagrange.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 13, 2013, at 2 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverends Bruce Helton, James Sanders and Arnold Sanders officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with Monroe’s sons and grandsons Ricky Starrett, Ricky Starrett, Jr., Eddie Starrett, Eddie Starrett, Jr., James Starrett, Austin Starrett, Jr., Bobby Bush and Andrew Bledsoe serving as pallbearers.
