We believe your service choice is a personal decision. At Carney-Frost Funeral Home we explain the options available, then allow you to make your own decisions.
A traditional service for burial, entombment or cremation, is usually the service of choice. At Carney-Frost Funeral Home we believe in the traditional funeral, because it best serves the needs of family and friends.
Every family is different, and not everyone wants the same type of funeral. Funeral practices are influenced by religious and cultural traditions, costs and personal preferences. These factors help determine whether the funeral will be elaborate or simple, public or private, religious or secular, and where it will be held. They also influence whether the body will be present at the funeral, if there will be a viewing or visitation, and if so, whether the casket will be open or closed, and whether the remains will be buried or cremated.
The traditional funeral service may include the following:
The traditional service is a meaningful expression for the family, and it gives friends and associates an opportunity to offer their tributes in the way of flowers or memorials to churches or organizations.
Generally, a member of the clergy or other person chosen by the family conducts a service of remembrance. We encourage the active participation of the family in helping plan this part of the service. Many times family members take part by giving a reading, singing or assisting the clergy.
If the ceremony is held in a church, there is no additional charge. Nor is there an additional charge for arranging and conducting fraternal services.
Direct Burial
The body is buried shortly after death, usually in a simple container. No viewing or visitation is involved, so no embalming is necessary. A memorial service may be held at the graveside or later. Direct burial usually costs less than the "traditional," full-service funeral. Costs include the funeral home's basic services fee, as well as transportation and care of the body, the purchase of a casket or burial container and a cemetery plot or crypt. If the family chooses to be at the cemetery for the burial, the funeral home often charges an additional fee for a graveside service.
Direct Cremation
The body is cremated shortly after death, without embalming. The cremated remains are placed in an urn or other container. No viewing or visitation is involved, although a memorial service may be held, with or without the cremated remains present. The remains can be kept in the home, buried or placed in a crypt or niche in a cemetery. Burial or scattering of cremated remains is subject to state and local law. Direct cremation usually costs less than the "traditional," full-service funeral. Costs include the funeral home's basic services fee, as well as transportation and care of the body. A crematory fee may be included or, if the funeral home does not own the crematory, the fee may be added on. There also will be a charge for an urn or other container. The cost of a cemetery plot or crypt is included only if the remains are buried or entombed.
Contrary to what most people believe, cremation does not limit one's choices. The choice of cremation does not eliminate a funeral service. A funeral service followed by cremation need be no different than a funeral service followed by ground burial. Following the funeral service and cremation, the cremated remains are usually placed in an urn before being committed to a final resting place. The cremation urn may be interred in an existing family burial plot, interred in a special cremation section at a cemetery or placed in an indoor or outdoor cemetery columbarium.
Scattering cremated remains may be done at a designated place on land or water in accordance with state and local laws. Scattering cremated remains on someone's private property requires their permission. It is not recommended to scatter on your personal property (should your home be sold) or on public property where others may come into contact with the cremated remains. For many people, it is important to have a permanent place to go to visit. This allows family and friends the ability to remember and celebrate a life that has been lived and touched others.
Can there be funeral services or ceremonies if cremation is chosen?
Cremation does not limit, but in fact increases the options available. The options for ceremonies prior to or following the cremation can include the selection of a casket or an urn, visitation with the body present (or memorial visitation where the urn is the focal point), a display of photographs or personal effects and awards, the location of the funeral ceremony and selection of music.
Personalized / Unique
All of our services can be customized to meet a family's needs or wishes. Increasingly, we find individuals want to create a memorial that reflects a more personalized and meaningful tribute. Our staff is always available to help you plan and design a memorial that fully reflects your wishes.
A memorial celebrates a life lived, and can take many forms. Whatever your wishes, our staff will be pleased to give you full details about our products and services, and help you make your decision. They will also make sure that any memorial you choose meets all your specifications.
Every funeral service should be a memorable, warm reflection of the person who has died. Many families believe costs may restrict them from planning a fitting tribute.
Photographs, a special song, even a favorite tie or golf clubs, can be incorporated into the funeral service to make it more meaningful. You tell us what it is that made your loved one so special and we'll give you ideas for personalizing the service.

Tribute to the Life of the Deceased
Families normally have photographs of the deceased at different stages of life. Our staff can take these photographs, add music and scenery, and create a memorable DVD depicting important moments in the life of the deceased for showing during visitation.

Casket Customization
Carney-Frost Funeral Home offers a wide array of caskets and cremation urns. We offer embroidered head panels to choose from to reflect the deceased’s interests and lifestyle. Special head panels can be ordered overnight. We also offer caskets that can be personalized by a choice of removable corners which the family can keep or give as keepsakes.
Charitable Gifts
Once the farewell services have been completed, memories continue. Some of mankind’s most cherished works of art and architecture have been conceived as a tribute to a cherished life. Other memorials as simple as a tree planted in someone’s name stand as a testament to love and devotion.
Benefits, foundations and scholarships are other ways to honor and recognize the impact of a person who has touched us. Gifts and charitable bequests are not only a means of expressing grief, but can be an important gift to society and an enduring tribute to a life well lived.
Customize the Visitation
No two funerals are alike. A well planned, personalized, customized funeral service is a proper celebration of a life that has been lived. We encourage families to plan the type of service that will reflect the individual’s lifestyle, taste and wishes. Everyone reacts to death differently. Personalization can offer loved ones a great deal of comfort and the opportunity for everyone to participate in this meaningful event.
Pictureboard Display
Most families use pictureboard displays simply because they reflect the happier times in life. This collage of memories becomes a “topic for discussion” during a visitation as people learn things that they did not know about the person.
Memories by Design
For all families from whom we can obtain an array of pictures, Carney-Frost Funeral Home, creates a DVD which combines music, scenery and pictures representative of important or moving moments in the life of the deceased. This DVD can be played on a repeating basis during visitation prior to the service. The original DVD is provided to the family free of charge. Copies of the DVD can be purchased. The DVD created captures a lifetime of memories a family has shared. The DVD can become a cherished treasure that can keep the memories of their loved one alive for future generations.
