Michael E. Schiltz, age 61, of Howe, IN died Tuesday September 24, 2013 at his home.  He was born on November 29, 1951 in Elkhart, IN to Lawrence E. & Mary E. (Culp) Schiltz.  Michael was a veteran of the United States Army where he served from January 29, 1971 to October 2, 1972 and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.  He was previously employed at Leer Corporation in Elkhart, IN as a pattern maker.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #215 in LaGrange, IN.   He enjoyed tinkering with electronics and creating  and designing things.  He married Julie A. Long on April 28, 2004 at the Scott United Methodist Church in Shipshewana, IN.  She survives in Howe, IN.  Also surviving is his mother – Mary Weaver of Sarasota, FL.  2 sons – Mitchell Moser of Mendon, MI and Jason Long of Sturgis, MI.  5 daughters – Kory Vance of Hometown, IL, Melinda Lee of Mims, FL, Jenny Weber of Elkhart, IN, Jamie Larkin of Sturgis, MI and Jessica Long of Sturgis, MI.  1 sister – Lori Schiltz of Elkhart, IN.  5 brothers – Daniel J. Schiltz of Shipshewana, IN, Shawn Schiltz of Elkhart, IN, Cody Elliot of Elkhart, IN, Mike Weaver of Shipshewana, IN and Stefan Weaver of Shipshewana, IN.  14 grandchildren.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 1, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Scott United Methodist Church,Shipshewana, IN.  A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm immediately following visitation with the Pastor Tammy Lugar officiating.  Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post #215.  On-Line condolences may be sent at www.carneyfrostfuneralhome.com  Carney-Frost Funeral Home, LaGrange, IN is handling the arrangements.

Mike and I worked together at Vac Masters as pattern makers. We had a lot of fun stirring the pot with the boss and all the other part timers that worked with us.

He was messing around with this used RPG tube in his spare time (Potato gun).
He thought the electronic ignition wasn't working, so he thought to use some wd-40 in it. That was a good idea except for looking down the tube while pulling the trigger.... He sure looked funny with no eyebrows!
